Fuller Dome Transformation Initiative
Fifty years!
It’s hard to believe but that’s how long it has been since the Fuller Dome Home was first constructed in Carbondale. In honor of this special occasion The RBF Dome NFP is excited to announce:

The Fuller Dome Transformation Initiative
April 18th – April 22nd, 2010

The Fiftieth Anniversary of the construction of the R. Buckminster and Anne Hewlett Fuller Dome Home in Carbondale, Illinois takes place April 19th 2010. The Buckminster Fuller Dome Home Non-Profit will honor the occasion with the launch of "The Fuller Dome Transformation Initiative," an impressive event running Sunday, April 18th to Thursday, April 22nd.

"The Fuller Dome Transformation Initiative" includes an exciting range of events that reflect the contribution, philosophy and work of R. Buckminster Fuller. The week of April 19, 2010 also includes the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day (Thursday, April 22). With his teachings on doing more with less, seeing pollution and waste as an asset rather than liability, and applying the geometry of nature to human structural forms, has been heralded as the father of "sustainability" and the Green Movement,

Committed participants include guest of honor (and Bucky daughter) Allegra Fuller Snyder, Bucky business partner Thomas Zung, top Fuller geometry expert Joe Clinton, World Game Institute co-founder Medard Gabel, and "Mr. Tensegrity" Tony Pugh. A documentary on the restoration of Fuller's Dymaxion Car #2, featuring interviews with Lord Norman Foster, J. Baldwin, and Bobby Kennedy Jr. will be debuted by filmmaker Noel Murphy.

Events include: Presentations, panels and exhibits, a Fuller music festival, documentary debuts, film showings, theatrical performances, poetry readings, improv and sketch comedy. There will also be Fuller design and architectural-related contests and exhibits that are open to the entire community (find out more about the Desktop Dome and Doghouse Dome design contests).

The Fuller Home Dome is the most historically significant geodesic dome structure in the United States and undeniably one of Carbondale’s most precious historical treasures. Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole has endorsed the importance of this week by signing a proclamation naming the week of April 19th officially "R. Buckminster & Anne Hewlett Fuller Dome Home Week" in Carbondale. Its restoration will have an immense impact on Carbondale and the Southern Illinois region. For this reason RBF Dome NFP is dedicated to restoring this national treasure to its original form.

Events are planned in conjunction with community and university organizations, including Carbondale Main Street, Carbondale Community Arts, Varsity Center for the Arts, Gaia House - Interfaith Center, Shawnee Green Party, SIUC Synergy Symposium, SIUC School of Architecture, and Morris Library Special Collections, among many others.

Most "Fuller Dome Transformation Initiative" events will have a cover charge, however one can get into all events (except the closing event, which will have a separate ticket) and several of the provided meals for only $75.00 each [checks payable to RBF Dome NFP, POB 1261, Carbondale, IL 62903].

For those who wish to participate in, contribute to, or volunteer for this five-day celebration, please contact RBF Dome NFP President Brent Ritzel at 618.203.4844 or RBFdome@yahoo.com.
